Although Musa daydreams of going to culinary school, he fulfills his obligations as the newly appointed Imam at the Masjid his late father co-founded. While coming to grips with his father's death, Musa struggles with insomnia and when his doctor refuses to refill his sleeping pill prescription, Musa makes illegal arrangements with a shady acquaintance from his building to continue the supply. Meanwhile, he is entrusted by his neighbours Adam and Idrees to look after their younger sister Maryam, while they return to their homeland to care for their sick father. Despite their very different temperaments, the two slowly begin to form a romantic relationship.
While Musa's mental health continues to deteriorate, the young couple wrestle with whether or not Maryam's family will overlook his complexion and accept their connection. When Musa finally gives himself the freedom to love, his grip on reality is further threatened by a local detective investigating misdeeds caused by his dependency. Things quickly begin to spiral out of control, and Musa makes a mistake that he can’t take back – not even in his dreams.
